Croydon Tramlink


Route 1 Elmers End - Wimbledon. Seen proceeding along George St, at the junction with North End and High Street. The almshouses can be seen on the corner of George Street and North End. The tram is about to descend Crown Hill.

Route 2 Croydon - Beckenham Junction. Seen in almost the same place as the photograph above, but from the other side of the road. The old 42 tram crossed this junction at right angles to the present tram route.

See this junction circa 1909 with Croydon Corporation trams

 

Routes 1 and 2 in George St, at the junction with Wellesley Road. Trams in the centre of Croydon operate a one way system, this is the eastern end of this system. The tram with the headlights is about to cross the junction to the place in the above pictures. The other has just come from Wellesley Road on the return journey. A little further along the road behind the trams is East Croydon Station

Route 2 Croydon - Beckenham Junction. Seen descending Crown Hill, This part of the tramway is in a pedestrianised area. The white cross is a tram signal.

The inside of a Croydon tram. There is room for 200 passengers inside, with 70 seated. Four standing people are expected to share one square metre of floor space.
The tramlink routes are:
1, Wimbledon - Elmers End
2, Croydon - Beckenham Junction
3, Croydon - New Addington
